GOAL 2019: A New Goal in Education at Batu Muda

This year, KL DiverseCity is hoping to create a more diverse set of programmes that cater to a wider range of audiences. One of these initiatives is bringing the programme called “Goal 2019”.

KL DiverseCity has worked alongside Shi Shuen Lok, a member of Women:girls and project leader for Goal, in bringing this programme into our “Projek Komuniti Kita” activity lineup. Goal Malaysia is an international girl empowerment development programme that combines life skills and sports disciplines for girls aged 13 to 17 years old within the Klang Valley.

For our first collaborative programme, we have brought 2 sessions of Goal 2019 to PPR Batu Muda on 25th August 2019 and 7th September 2019. Both sessions were done in the morning from 10.30am to 12.00pm. It may be targeted at the teenage age group but even adult women residents were welcomed to joined in on the fun.

There were 11 participants during the first session of the programme with 7 teenagers and 4 adults. The first session saw the residents interact with Shuen’s team for the first time. They were given a short briefing of the programme.

When the games started, many of the girls were pleasantly surprised that the approach that Goal 2019 took in educating. Both teenagers and adults were able to mingle and play a wide variety of indoor games all while learning about topics related to female empowerment.

After a first successful session, the second session held had a larger number of participants. There was a total of 19 participants with 14 teenagers and 5 adults joining in this time.

While the first was an introduction to the programme, the second session took the session to another level with integrating elements of outdoor sports into the session. Both the session was well received by the participants.

Many happy faces can be seen throughout both the sessions. It also serves as a wonderful bonding session between the teenagers and the adults as they were put into teams and made to mingle with each other and utilise teamwork in each activity that was carried out in Goal.
