The DiverseCity Kuala Lumpur International Arts Festival 2018 media briefing was held on Tuesday 21st August 2018 at Carcosa Seri Negara. The building was a natural choice for the event due to its historical significance- Seri Negara is a historical location where the Malay rulers signed the Federation of Malaya Agreement of 1957. Three exhibitions will also be held at Carcosa Seri Negara in conjunction with KLIAF: The very first Humans of Kuala Lumpur photography exhibition, the “Jalan Merdeka” exhibition and the Photographs of 1957 exhibition by Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah of Terengganu.

YB Fahmi Fadzil

We were deeply honoured that YB Fahmi Fadzil, the MP for Lembah Pantai made a point to drop by prior to the start of the event even though he was unable to attend the launch itself. YB Fahmi, is well known as a supporter of the arts and an established thespian in his own right.

The media briefing was presented by the festival’s marketing director Vivek Menon and the event commenced with a speech from YBhg Datin Seri Sunita, our Festival Director.

“For the past three years, every RM1 (the festival) of grant funding given by the Government has been matched by RM2-3 of funding from sponsors, ticket sales, other partners and supporters. So this means we have an outsized economic impact when we are presenting the festival”
